What it does

SteelEye makes compliance software that combines trade surveillance, communications surveillance and record keeping on one data platform. Its sector pages are aimed at banks, brokers, hedge funds, commodity traders, trading venues, and asset and wealth managers.

The platform first collects and indexes a firm's structured and unstructured data, such as orders, trades, market data, news, email, chat and voice, and then runs compliance modules against it. Surveillance teams get alerts for possible market abuse and can assemble orders, trades and messages into a single case for review. Other modules cover archiving in an unalterable format for eDiscovery, voice transcription, transaction cost analysis and execution-quality checks, MiFID II transaction reporting, trade reconstruction and three-way reconciliation. The company also offers an AI assistant for compliance staff called Compliance CoPilot.

SteelEye was founded in 2017 by chief executive Matt Smith and is registered in England and Wales, with offices in London, New York, Singapore, Braga and Bangalore. In November 2025 it agreed to merge with FundApps, a compliance monitoring and regulatory reporting provider backed by FTV Capital, which made an additional equity investment for the deal. The two firms said they serve 350 clients in 18 countries combined. Pricing is not published.
