Trilogy Capital has struck its largest acquisition of the year, a deal for Mountain Capital Investment Advisors, a $1 billion RIA in Westminster, Colorado, WealthManagement.com reported.

Mountain Capital was founded in 2011 by Brandt Burns, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and former pilot, and works with aviation professionals.

The deal gives Trilogy a second Colorado office and its 11th overall, alongside locations in California, Arizona and Massachusetts, and Mountain Capital will keep its brand name.

Burns and other senior leaders owned Mountain Capital, according to its most recent Form ADV, and its team includes current and former pilots, airline executives and industry experts. "Partnering with Trilogy allows us to maintain our firm's personalized service and expertise, while enhancing additional offerings that matter most to our clients," Burns said in a statement.

Trilogy Financial started RIA Trilogy Capital in 2016 under co-founder, President and CEO Jeff Motske, and the firm now reports more than $5 billion in AUM. It runs a centralized office for advisor services spanning compliance, investments, tax preparation and marketing, and counts Peloton Capital Management as a minority investor. "Mountain Capital is a perfect fit for Trilogy and demonstrates our commitment to intelligent inorganic growth," Motske said in a statement.

Mountain Capital's consulting work for pilots and its tax preparation for airline professionals will be combined with Trilogy Tax & Consulting, an affiliated company Trilogy launched in September.

Neither side disclosed a purchase price or a multiple, and it was not clear whether Trilogy's more than $5 billion AUM figure includes Mountain Capital.
