25-second brief
  • Carson Group hired Matt Humphrey, most recently head of wealth and investment management at United Bank, as divisional president of its integrated advisor channel and member of the executive leadership team.

  • Humphrey brings a bank operating record: more than 100 financial professionals and more than $12 billion in assets under supervision at United Bank, where he was also chief executive of United Brokerage Services.

  • The hire completes a reorganization that divides Carson into two advisor businesses with separate leadership.

Carson Group hired Matt Humphrey, most recently head of wealth and investment management at United Bank, as divisional president of its integrated advisor channel and member of the executive leadership team. The Omaha-based RIA announced the appointment Tuesday, and a spokesperson said the role is a new part of the firm's channel-focused leadership structure.

Humphrey brings a bank operating record: more than 100 financial professionals and more than $12 billion in assets under supervision at United Bank, where he was also chief executive of United Brokerage Services. At the $65 billion Carson, his remit covers growing Carson Wealth's employee advisor offices, improving the experience for those advisors and better linking the resources that support them, according to the announcement.

The hire completes a reorganization that divides Carson into two advisor businesses with separate leadership. Humphrey takes the integrated, W-2 side, which InvestmentNews reports has become the main engine of Carson's acquisition strategy. Scott Conroy, also a divisional president, leads the independent channel, which recently added Kevin Peterson, formerly head of recruiting at Osaic, as senior vice president of business development.

Humphrey graduated from the US Military Academy at West Point and spent eight years as an Army aviation officer, then earned an MBA in finance and strategy at Vanderbilt University's Owen Graduate School of Management before joining Goldman Sachs as a private wealth advisor.

Carson CEO Burt White said Humphrey "understands what it takes to lead and grow a complex wealth management business, but just as importantly, he understands this business from the advisor and client perspective."

Private-bank leadership hires and employee-channel book trades have been part of recent advisor recruiting. In September, four $3 billion Fort Lauderdale teams moved in a single day, per PWD's reporting, and the week's disclosed advisor AUM in motion reached $19.8 billion.
