OneDigital out-consolidates LPL and Tastytrade combined

The employee-benefits brokerage logged 71 advisor and acquisition events in 30 days, more than LPL's 28 and Tastytrade's 37 combined, pointing the talent war through benefits platforms.

OneDigital, the employee-benefits brokerage, logged 71 advisor and acquisition events in 30 days, more than LPL Financial's 28 and Tastytrade's 37 combined. For years the consolidation story in wealth management has run through the independent platforms, but in the latest 30-day window the fastest consolidator was a benefits broker.

PWD's tracking logged 554 advisor moves in the latest 30-day window, against 64 team liftouts. UBS was the most active firm overall at 141 events, a wirehouse sitting at the center of churn rather than consolidation. OneDigital's 71 came next, with MAI Capital Management at 69, Farther at 63, and Merit Financial Advisors at 59, all well ahead of Tastytrade's 37 and LPL Financial's 28.

Deal announcements ran to 400 in the same 30-day span, while RIA M&A coverage reached 67 stories in the latest 14-day window. M&A remains the default route to scale, but the talent side is moving faster through benefits than through platform recruiting.

OneDigital and MAI Capital Management together logged 140 events in 30 days, one event short of UBS's 141. The wirehouse is still the biggest source of departing advisors, but the benefits platforms are now absorbing talent at nearly the same rate as UBS.

Benefits brokers hold a practical edge because a benefits relationship already sits inside the employer conversation, making retirement and wealth services an extension rather than a cold start. That gives a benefits-led acquirer cheaper, stickier growth than a wirehouse team that can be bid away again.

If OneDigital and MAI hold a 70-event monthly pace, the next 30 days will show whether that is a run rate or a spike. The next national RIA, on that evidence, would be built one employer contract at a time, with OneDigital's 71 and MAI's 69 as the first 30 days of proof.
