Opto Investments

Opto Investments runs a private markets platform for RIAs, private banks and family offices that want to offer alternative investments to their clients. It combines software with fund formation and investment management, so a wealth firm can build its own private markets program rather than placing clients one fund at a time.

The platform is organised into build, fundraise and manage stages. Firms can form custom fund vehicles for their clients through Opto. Planning tools set a private markets target allocation for each client, map multi-year commitment schedules, link allocations to model portfolios, and use either the firm's capital market assumptions or Opto's. Fundraising tools generate client proposals and investor materials and track commitments and deadlines across funds in a transaction center. After investment, the platform handles servicing, reporting and portfolio analytics in one place. The company says only about 1.5% of the funds it screens pass its vetting.

Opto was founded in 2020. Joe Lonsdale, a founder of Addepar and Palantir and of the venture firm 8VC, is co-founder and chairman, and Ryan VanGorder is chief executive. The company says its team numbers more than 60. Its press page lists partnership announcements with RIAs including Mercer Advisors and EP Wealth Advisors in 2024.
