US Signal acquires Hillsboro data center with 4.5MW on site

The 63,000-square-foot building, rebranded ORO2, is the Igneo-backed operator's first owned facility in the Portland metro area.

At a glance

  1. The building has 4.5MW of power on site and about 14,000 square feet of data hall space, with room to expand.
  2. For allocators underwriting Igneo, US Signal's owner, the expansion option changes the capacity math because Oregon has paused data center permits until July 2027, as Private Infrastructure Daily previously reported.
  3. US Signal already operates an Oregon facility in Bend, about 175 miles southeast of Hillsboro.

US Signal acquired a 63,000-square-foot data center in Hillsboro, Oregon.

It is the first facility the company owns in the Portland metro area and one of about 17 data centers it runs across seven states.

The building has 4.5MW of power on site and about 14,000 square feet of data hall space, with room to expand. It has been rebranded ORO2. Terms were not disclosed. Data Center Dynamics first reported the acquisition.

For allocators underwriting Igneo, US Signal's owner, the expansion option changes the capacity math because Oregon has paused data center permits until July 2027, as Private Infrastructure Daily previously reported. 'Hillsboro gives us a way to grow in a market where available capacity is extremely limited,' John White, chief operating officer, said in a statement.

US Signal already operates an Oregon facility in Bend, about 175 miles southeast of Hillsboro. It runs a 9,500-mile fiber network, and Igneo acquired it in February 2023.

Michael Ryder, partner and co-head of North America at Igneo, said the investment 'extends that model into the Portland metro area through an existing facility with room to grow.' The company's previous data center purchase, outside Chicago, was made in February.
