ServerDome Global has started construction on a 350 MW off-grid data center campus in Hudspeth County, Texas, a $10 billion project, Data Center Dynamics reported.
The campus sits at Hueco Ranch in Desert Haven and could total ten buildings on about 700 acres of a 2,000-acre tract of idle ranch and oil and gas land. Power comes from a behind-the-meter natural gas solution, and a closed-loop cooling system is meant to cut water use. Phase one reportedly has tenants secured. ServerDome is working with investment firm Kaufman & Company on the project.
Lenders and later-phase buyers will want the phase-one tenant names and the gas supply contract length, because those terms determine how dependable the project's cash flow is. ServerDome says a single dome supports about 20 MW, so ten domes would cover 200 MW, 150 MW short of the 350 MW figure. The gap could mean more than ten shells, larger shells, or generation capacity counted inside the total.
ServerDome plans 600-by-300-foot prefabricated dome shells instead of conventional data center halls, which it says can be delivered in as little as 12 months. The company says the design supports air and liquid cooling at densities up to 250 kW per rack.
The project surfaced publicly after Hudspeth County Judge Joanna E. MacKenzie published an open letter confirming that a developer was looking to build in the area. David J. Keegan, chief executive of ServerDome Global, later apologized for the lack of notice given to local residents and officials.
Behind-the-meter generation has become the workaround as siting rules tighten. Thirteen states attempted data center moratoriums in 2026, as Private Wealth Daily previously reported, and moratoriums have pushed developers toward behind-the-meter generation. ServerDome lists further projects in Port Mackenzie, Alaska; Prairie County, Montana; Mesa, Arizona; Mona, Utah; and Saudi Arabia. Keegan has said the company is targeting a development in Wharton, Texas, outside Houston. It reportedly broke ground on a Utah project, Granite Fortress in Juab County outside Salt Lake City, according to a July press release. That site will use rooftop solar for part of its load.
