Osaic adds $576M Freehold team from Stifel Independent Advisors

The three-generation Landrum, S.C. practice joins after Equitable Advisors bought Stifel Independent Advisors in February 2026.

At a glance

  1. Freehold was previously affiliated with Stifel Independent Advisors, which Equitable Advisors acquired in February 2026.
  2. Stifel Independent Advisors' Form ADV lists 20 representatives and about $5.0 billion in assets, and Freehold's $576 million is roughly a ninth of that book.
  3. Freehold's principals named scale, asset management through Osaic affiliate Ladenburg Thalmann Asset Management, and succession-planning resources as their tiebreakers.

Freehold Wealth Management, a Landrum, South Carolina estate-planning practice with about $576 million in client assets, joined Osaic from Stifel Independent Advisors.

Freehold's principals named scale, asset management through Osaic affiliate Ladenburg Thalmann Asset Management, and succession-planning resources as their tiebreakers. Succession planning carried particular weight for a firm built to hand down.

Freehold was founded by Cynthia "Cindy" Boyle and John Boyle and now includes their daughter, Mary Steele, as managing partner. Professionals serve clients in Wisconsin, Michigan and North Carolina.

"I'm focused on building our family business into a firm that can serve clients and their families for decades to come," Steele said. "Osaic's community, succession-planning capabilities and broad wealth management resources give us a strong foundation for that next chapter."

InvestmentNews first reported the Freehold affiliation. Osaic earlier in 2025 made a majority investment in Innovative Wealth Team, a Nashville firm providing succession-planning services to advisors nearing retirement.

Osaic's October recruiting included a $2.3 billion New Jersey team from LPL. Freehold's $576 million is smaller than that move.
