Vendors can absorb the charge, reprice or stop integrating, according to Kitces's November advisor technology column.

Orion has announced a fee on technology vendors that access Orion data through an integration, leaving those vendors to absorb the charge, raise their own prices or stop connecting to the platform.

Kitces's Nerd's Eye View advisor technology column for November 2026, published Nov. 2, reported the fee and the three choices it gives vendors. The size of the fee was not disclosed.

For an advisory firm, the charge would arrive inside what its technology vendors bill rather than as a separate line from Orion. Under the three options the column describes, a CRM, reporting or planning tool that pulls Orion account data would either reprice at renewal or drop the connector, and the vendor makes that call. Procurement is where a firm can establish the cost: ask whether a quoted subscription already includes the platform's access charge.
