LPL Financial adds $5.4 billion in advisor teams and leads 30-day record by 47 events

UBS placed second with 83 events, and U.S. Bank and PNC Private Bank each lost a team of at least $2 billion to LPL.

At a glance

25-second brief
  • LPL Financial accounted for 130 of the events in our 30-day records, 47 more than UBS's 83 and nearly twice Kestra Private Wealth Services' 67.

  • LPL added $5.4 billion in advisor teams in the window, while U.S. Bank and PNC Private Bank each lost a team of at least $2 billion to it.

  • LPL's 47-event gap over UBS is wider than the entire 30-day total at Ascentis Independent Advisors, which logged 43, or at Wells Fargo Advisors Financial Network, which logged 42.

LPL Financial accounted for 130 of the events in our 30-day records, 47 more than UBS's 83 and nearly twice Kestra Private Wealth Services' 67. Raymond James Financial Services and The Retirement Planning Group each logged 64, with RFG Advisory and Northwestern Mutual at 58 apiece. Raymond James also appears in the records as a separate entry with 36 events, which our counts keep apart from the Financial Services figure rather than adding to it.

LPL added $5.4 billion in advisor teams in the window, while U.S. Bank and PNC Private Bank each lost a team of at least $2 billion to it. Those two departures were the largest single blocks of assets behind LPL's $5.4 billion, and they came from banks rather than from rival broker-dealers.

LPL's 47-event gap over UBS is wider than the entire 30-day total at Ascentis Independent Advisors, which logged 43, or at Wells Fargo Advisors Financial Network, which logged 42.

Advisor moves totalled 837 events and team liftouts 403. Breakaway events, at 73, were outnumbered by advisor moves by more than eleven to one, suggesting the bulk of movement ran through established firms rather than out of the employee channel altogether.

Kestra Private Wealth Services at 67, Raymond James Financial Services at 64 and The Retirement Planning Group at 64 landed within three events of one another. UBS's 83 was roughly double the total at Wells Fargo Advisors Financial Network. A single 30-day window cannot show whether the gap at the top is widening.
