Ether takes the lead as crypto ETPs break a long outflow streak

July's $515.9 million in net inflows ended the streak and lifted assets to $117.5 billion, though price gains did most of the work.

At a glance

  1. Global crypto ETPs took in $515.9 million over the month, pushing total assets to $117.5 billion from $108.6 billion in June.
  2. The rebound was broad, but the Americas did most of the work.
  3. The CoinDesk 20 Index climbed 7.7% to 1,726.05, recovering a slice of June's 21.2% drop.

The longest outflow run of the 2026 crypto correction ended in July, and it ended cleanly. Global crypto ETPs took in $515.9 million over the month, pushing total assets to $117.5 billion from $108.6 billion in June. The numbers come from ETF Express's monthly global digital assets review, written by CoinDesk's Joshua de Vos with Trackinsight data.

The rebound was broad, but the Americas did most of the work. US-listed funds collected $429.0 million after redemptions of $4.46 billion in June, and Europe and Canada also turned positive. The Americas as a region accounted for roughly $447.5 million of the total. Ethereum-linked products took the lead from bitcoin for the first time in several months, according to Trackinsight.

Markets helped. The CoinDesk 20 Index climbed 7.7% to 1,726.05, recovering a slice of June's 21.2% drop. The more concentrated CoinDesk 5 Index rose 8.3% to 1,037.64, a bit more than the broad index, which points to large-cap leadership. In June, the two fell together; in July, they diverged.

New money and asset growth are not the same thing. AUM expanded by $8.9 billion in July, but net inflows were only $515.9 million. Almost all of the gain was mark-to-market. The reversal is real, but it is small next to the price gain.

Ether takes the lead

Ether funds attracted $318.7 million in July, ahead of bitcoin's $243.0 million. The iShares Ethereum Trust ETF, ETHA, was the month's top global crypto ETP at $359.4 million, the first time a spot ethereum ETF has led the monthly gainers list in several months. Ether category assets ended July at $14.0 billion, up from $11.4 billion, while bitcoin funds held $93.6 billion versus $86.9 billion in June.

There is a concentration inside the ether total. ETHA drew $359.4 million, more than the entire ether category's $318.7 million, which means the other ether funds gave back roughly $41 million. In fund terms, July's ether rebound was essentially one fund.

Other categories held up. Multi-asset baskets took in $17.4 million, their second straight month of inflows, and reached $2.04 billion in assets. XRP products added $24.8 million, for a $2.09 billion category total. Solana funds took in $18.4 million, lifting assets to $2.16 billion and stretching a positive run to six months. Both altcoin groups slowed from June but did not change direction.

For fund issuers, the July data carries two messages. Their shelves remain bitcoin-heavy by assets, but investors are sending new cash toward ether and multi-asset baskets. If ether repeats as the category leader in August, the July rebound begins to look like a shift in investor taste rather than a simple bounce.
