Eric Pan plans to step down as president and chief executive of the Investment Company Institute, the fund industry's trade association, after six years in the role, the group announced Monday, according to PLANADVISER.

The ICI board of governors asked Pan to remain until a successor is found, and he has agreed, with the intention of leaving by June 30, 2027, according to the announcement. From the announcement date, that leaves the board just over eight months to settle on a replacement.

"Being the head of ICI has been a remarkable role for which I am grateful for the opportunity, but I never wanted to make this role the last position of my career," Pan said in a statement. "Six years is a long time for a CEO. I want to now build upon my wonderful experience at ICI and pursue new opportunities while I still can."

Andrew Schlossberg, chair of the ICI board of governors and president and chief executive of Invesco, called Pan "a tireless advocate for our industry and the millions of Americans who depend on it to achieve their financial goals."

Under Pan, ICI ran a 2025 advocacy campaign called "Help U.S. Retire" that sent 11,000 letters to Congress asking lawmakers not to limit retirement account tax breaks. The group also mounted a 2025 "Reimagining the 1940 Act" initiative, backing amendments to securities rules that would allow dual-share-class funds and permit exchange-traded-fund share classes inside existing mutual fund portfolios.
