California locks in November deadline for first corporate climate reports

ESG Today's weekly review also records €1.6 billion in Ircantec mandates, ESMA greenwashing guidance, SBTN's new nature target-setting framework and TNFD's updated reporting guidance.

At a glance

  1. The review also lists the state's finalization of its corporate climate reporting regulations among the week's developments.
  2. Amundi and BNP Paribas Asset Management won €1.6 billion in sustainable investment mandates from Ircantec, according to the same review.
  3. ESMA published guidance for investment firms on avoiding greenwashing in impact and climate transition claims.

California has locked in a November deadline for the first corporate climate reports, ESG Today reported in its weekly review. The review also lists the state's finalization of its corporate climate reporting regulations among the week's developments. The item does not specify which companies fall in the first wave or what the reports must contain.

Amundi and BNP Paribas Asset Management won €1.6 billion in sustainable investment mandates from Ircantec, according to the same review. A separate entry records that BII is to mobilize $1.6 billion for climate finance in Southeast Asia.

ESMA published guidance for investment firms on avoiding greenwashing in impact and climate transition claims. On nature, the review distinguishes two moves: SBTN released a new framework for corporate science-based nature target setting, while TNFD issued a major update to its existing guidance supporting corporate nature-related reporting. More than 800 companies have committed to TNFD-aligned nature reporting ahead of new ISSB and ISO standards, per the review.

Two asset managers also restated their sustainability positioning. BNP Paribas Asset Management launched a new global sustainability strategy following its AXA IM acquisition, and JPMorgan recalibrated its sustainable finance strategy to balance emissions reduction with energy security.

The disclosure calendar and the capital commitments arrive in the same week, but they move on different clocks. California's deadline governs what companies must publish about emissions; the €1.6 billion Ircantec award is money already allocated to two managers. Which of the two pulls more capital over time is a question the week's items do not answer.
