Amazon signs four Swedish wind PPAs

The contracts are the revenue backstop for three Mirova-owned Swedish wind farms and a fourth still under construction.

At a glance

  1. Three of the contracts cover farms already delivering carbon-free electricity to the Swedish grid: the 17.5 MW Boarp, the 18 MW Dållebo and the 31.5 MW Fågelås, all part of the Saena portfolio developed by Eolus and owned by investment manager Mirova.
  2. Mirova's ownership of the three operational farms is what separates this from a routine corporate renewables purchase: Amazon's PPA payments put a corporate balance sheet under an institutional investor's clean-energy income stream.
  3. Amazon says it was the largest corporate buyer of carbon-free energy in Sweden in 2025, and the global tally explains why: more than 700 renewable projects and more than 40 GW of capacity worldwide, more than 10 GW of it in Europe.

Amazon has signed four long-term power purchase agreements covering nearly 200 MW of wind capacity in southern and central Sweden, a deal better read as transition finance than as plain procurement. The offtake contracts are the revenue backstop for the projects behind them, supporting an investment manager collecting cash from three operational wind farms and a developer still building a fourth.

The fourth, a 132 MW project called Fageråsen in Dalarna, is under construction by Eolus, OX2 and Dala Vind, where work began earlier this year; Eolus, which developed the operational Saena projects, is also co-developing that one.

Mirova's ownership of the three operational farms is what separates this from a routine corporate renewables purchase: Amazon's PPA payments put a corporate balance sheet under an institutional investor's clean-energy income stream. The Fageråsen contract, on the standard project-finance pattern, is the kind of anchor offtake a lender looks for before construction risk is taken.

Amazon says it was the largest corporate buyer of carbon-free energy in Sweden in 2025, and the global tally explains why: more than 700 renewable projects and more than 40 GW of capacity worldwide, more than 10 GW of it in Europe. The new contracts take its Swedish portfolio to nine projects and 985 MW once Fageråsen generates, enough for more than 350,000 households.

"Sweden is already a leader in carbon-free energy, and we want to contribute to that development," Gülfem Toygar, Amazon's country manager in Sweden, said. The PPAs sit under the Climate Pledge, Amazon's commitment to net-zero emissions across its business by 2040.

Amazon's recent energy commitments follow a pattern: earlier this month it backed an Indian agri-waste fuel startup, and both moves put corporate capital directly into energy projects. The Swedish deal makes the mechanics explicit—a PPA converts a wind farm into a contracted cash-flow stream, and in the case of the Saena portfolio, that stream belongs to Mirova's investors. That is transition finance outside the labeled-bond market: a corporate buyer, a long-term contract, and an institutional owner collecting the return. Fageråsen, still under construction, will show whether that contract carries through construction and into the Saena portfolio alongside the three operating farms.
