MONTICELLOAM, LLC and its affiliates (“Monticello”) is a real estate and asset-based lender providing asset management and comprehensive capital solutions for healthcare, multifamily, and commercial real estate assets throughout the US. We are seeking motivated, collaborative professionals who bring creativity, compassion, and a strong work ethic to a dynamic team environment.

We are looking for a Senior Accountant or Controller for our New York City or White Plains, NY offices to oversee day-to-day accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls for Monticello as a corporate entity and its portfolio of affiliate debt funds across various legal entities. This role partners closely with Monticello’s Accounting leadership, coordinates with fund administrators, external audit and tax firms, and third-party accounting consultants, and is expected to grow into ownership of the firm’s close, audit, tax, and compliance processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accounting & Financial Reporting: Lead the monthly close and financial statement preparation for certain Monticello affiliated entities and its affiliate business units, working within NetSuite, Kyriba, and Ramp, for review and presentation to firm leadership; maintain accounting policies and internal controls.
  • Fund Oversight: Serve as lead liaison between Monticello and its fund administrator across 40+ private funds for which Monticello is investment manager, including regular correspondence, process-driven review and sign-off on monthly/quarterly NAV packs, preparation of investor reporting materials, and assistance with quarterly investor distributions. Coordinate with the offshore team and fund administrators to review the documentation supporting the monthly NAV testing procedures for a public reporting REIT. Support treasury functions across Monticello and its affiliate funds, including cash management, funding coordination, and wire processing.
  • Audit Support: Act as lead audit liaison for Monticello, which completes approximately 45–50 audits each year across two external audit firms; field audit requests, review and draft financial statements, and project manage the overall audit process, including regular communication with the fund administrator and valuation firms.
  • Tax Support: Act as lead tax liaison for Monticello and its affiliate entities, which complete 300+ tax returns each year across two external tax firms; field tax requests and project manage the tax return filing process.
  • Covenant & Compliance Reporting: Lead preparer of all covenant and compliance reporting the firm is subject to, including both corporate guarantees and guarantees at the affiliate fund level.
  • Systems & Team: Support finance technology implementations (e.g., Kyriba, Netsuite, Ramp) and, as the role grows, help manage and develop accounting staff.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA a plus
  • 3-5 years of corporate or public accounting experience for Senior Accountant candidates; 6-10 years, including prior supervisory or controller-level experience, for Controller candidates.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and financial statement preparation.
  • Public company accounting/reporting experience a plus for support of REIT reporting requirements.
  • Some understanding of real estate, lending, investment management, credit, and/or REITs
  • Auditor experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Excel required; experience with Kyriba and/or Netsuite strongly preferred
  • Strong work ethic, analytical and problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Work in the office as required by office policy.
