STRATA Trust Company is a directed custodian for self-directed IRAs that hold alternative and traditional assets. It serves individual investors and also works with RIAs, wealth managers, brokers and dealers who want clients to hold private investments in tax-advantaged retirement accounts, as well as issuers and sponsors, real estate professionals and precious metals brokers.

The company opens and administers Traditional, Roth, SEP and SIMPLE IRAs and holds private equity, private debt, other private placements, directly owned residential or commercial real estate, and IRS-approved precious metals kept at partner depositories. Brokerage accounts inside the IRA can hold stocks, ETFs and mutual funds. STRATA processes purchases, sales, capital calls, distributions and rental income, handles tax reporting such as 990-T statements and 1099-R forms, and runs an online onboarding process for advisors' clients and for sponsors adding new investments. As a directed custodian it does not give investment advice or review the merits of investments.

STRATA has worked with retirement investors since 2008 and is based in Austin, Texas. The company says it has more than $10B in assets under custody. Its fee schedule is published: a Flex tier costs $395 a year plus per-asset fees of $50 for each private asset and $150 for each property, and a precious-metals tier costs $150 a year plus storage.
