Circulating supply rose 63% since 2017, Nansen's Nicolai Sondergaard told CoinDesk, leaving each token a smaller share of total value.

At a glance

  1. Bitcoin ETFs often pull in more than $1 billion in a single day.
  2. Circulating XRP rose 63% to 63.1 billion tokens from 38.7 billion in 2017, while the asset's total market value slipped about 3%, Nicolai Sondergaard, a senior research analyst at Nansen, told CoinDesk.
  3. For an advisor, the diligence question is concrete: $1.80 billion sits in a category whose token float has expanded since 2017, while spot volume has fallen.

XRP exchange-traded funds have taken in $1.80 billion since debuting nearly a year ago, according to SoSoValue data cited by CoinDesk. Bitcoin ETFs often pull in more than $1 billion in a single day.

Circulating XRP rose 63% to 63.1 billion tokens from 38.7 billion in 2017, while the asset's total market value slipped about 3%, Nicolai Sondergaard, a senior research analyst at Nansen, told CoinDesk. XRP still trades below its early-2018 peak despite briefly exceeding it in July 2025, the article reports.

For an advisor, the diligence question is concrete: $1.80 billion sits in a category whose token float has expanded since 2017, while spot volume has fallen. Float sets what each fund share represents; trading depth sets how easily a position can be exited.

Nansen data cited by CoinDesk puts XRP spot volume down 53.5%, perpetual futures volume down 44% and active addresses down 10.7%. No comparison period was given for those declines. Paul Howard, a senior director at market-making firm Wincent, told CoinDesk that ETF uptake has been muted relative to bitcoin and ether funds.

Total value rather than unit price

Oliver Carding, head of marketing at Tesseract Group, an institutional digital asset manager with more than $500 million in assets, told CoinDesk that XRP had recovered on a total-value basis. With about 63% more tokens in circulation than at the peak, the same circulating market capitalization would mean a price roughly 39% lower.

Bitcoin's share of total crypto market value reached 60%, its highest since May, ALTS reported on Oct. 22, with smaller-token indexes falling and ETF flows volatile.
