Wellington insurance bond team wins asset manager award

The FRM group builds reserve portfolios around insurers' accounting, capital and liquidity limits, its portfolio manager says.

At a glance

  1. Known internally as FRM, the group is one of 14 fixed-income teams inside Wellington's bond platform.
  2. For allocators comparing insurance managers, a reserve portfolio built to accounting and capital limits can diverge from a broad bond index.
  3. The due-diligence question is which constraints are written into guidelines and who on the team owns them.

Wellington Management's insurance fixed-income team won Investment Team of the Year - Asset Manager at the 2026 Insurance Asset Risk Awards North America, according to an award interview Insurance Asset Risk published with portfolio manager Alyssa Irving.

Known internally as FRM, the group is one of 14 fixed-income teams inside Wellington's bond platform. It manages insurance reserve portfolios and other customised mandates, building around policy liabilities, accounting treatment, regulatory limits, liquidity and capital needs, and each client's investment guidelines, Irving said.

For allocators comparing insurance managers, a reserve portfolio built to accounting and capital limits can diverge from a broad bond index. The due-diligence question is which constraints are written into guidelines and who on the team owns them.
