Schwab IMPACT opens in Boston with more than 6,000 attendees

Attendance is up from 5,400 in Denver last year, and Jon Beatty shares a Wednesday keynote with CEO Rick Wurster.

Charles Schwab's 36th IMPACT conference opens this week in Boston with more than 6,000 attendees on site, up from 5,400 at last year's event in Denver, according to InvestmentNews. That is at least 600 more people than Schwab drew to Colorado a year ago.

IMPACT runs through Thursday at the Thomas M. Menino Convention and Exhibition Center, with education sessions starting Tuesday afternoon. Jon Beatty, head of Schwab Advisor Services, delivers a welcome keynote Tuesday evening, then returns Wednesday morning with CEO Rick Wurster for a keynote on making a positive impact. Thursday brings Andre Agassi on "The champion mindset: Reinvention, resilience, and purpose" and a closing keynote, "Beyond the Horizon," from Artemis II astronauts Jeremy Hansen and Victor J. Glover Jr.

The backdrop is the scale Schwab reports for its advisor business: more than 17,000 firms served, nearly $6 trillion in client assets safeguarded and more than 3,000 employees dedicated to serving advisors. Divided out, that is roughly 5.7 client firms per advisor-facing employee, a ratio that shapes how much attention any one firm can command at renewal. It is also a question a principal can put to a coverage team directly: how many firms does the person assigned to my account actually handle?

The people doing that handling turn over. Moves Wire records two Schwab departures in the past 12 months and no arrivals, most recently Hardeep Walia, who moved to TD Bank US as head of U.S. wealth management on Oct. 15. Client cash sits inside the same relationship: as Private Wealth Daily previously reported, cash shifting into T-bills turns custody terms into a contract negotiation. For anyone in Boston this week, both threads raise the same question — who signs off on pricing and platform requests after the handoff, and does the answer survive the next one?
