RLUSD has a market capitalization above $2.5 billion, according to the announcement, and Robinhood had 28.6 million funded accounts at the end of August.
Robinhood has not said whether RLUSD will sit alongside USDG in the same products or replace it. The company helped establish the Global Dollar Network in 2024 to promote USDG, the Paxos-issued stablecoin, and member companies share in the revenue it generates. In July, the consortium said USDG would be the default lending asset for Robinhood Earn, Robinhood's onchain lending product. A client earning yield on dollar balances through Robinhood Earn holds USDG today.
The companies announced the partnership Tuesday, CoinDesk reported. RLUSD is already available on Robinhood Chain and on Bitstamp, the exchange Robinhood acquired for $200 million in June. The agreement also covers Robinhood's institutional side.
Bitstamp will use RLUSD on the XRP Ledger for settlement. Robinhood plans to adopt Ripple's treasury software for cash management, payments and forecasting. Ripple Prime already provides Bitstamp with lending and margin financing across roughly 20 digital assets, and the two plan to add perpetual futures trading later this year.
RLUSD launched in December 2024. The XRP Ledger that Bitstamp will use for RLUSD settlement also carries tokenized fund shares: Franklin Templeton moved $150 million of sgBENJI onto the ledger on Oct. 24, as Digital Capital Daily previously reported.
The next dated milestones are the app rollout before the end of 2026 and perpetual futures trading later this year.
