Pure Data Centres completes final Brent Cross transformer ahead of energization

The third 75MVA Hitachi Energy unit brings the LON01 substation to 150MVA; the second building is slated for completion in Q2 2029.

Pure Data Centres has completed installation of the third and final transformer at its LON01 campus in Brent Cross, London, bringing the substation's total capacity to 150MVA. Energization of the 90MW campus is expected later this month, according to Data Center Dynamics.

Hitachi Energy supplied the 75MVA transformers, which Pure says will support power supply to the campus's B1 and B2 buildings, with ductwork already in place for the B2 connection. Because restricted space around the live substation ruled out a conventional 500-ton crane, the project team built a specialist gantry system with 1,000 tons of lifting capacity to move the unit into position.

PID reported in September that the Brent Cross shell was announced without a named tenant.

Work on the second building began last month, with completion slated for Q2 2029. LON01 will use closed-loop liquid cooling for high-density AI inference and cloud workloads, and B2 is to carry a living wall that Pure describes as one of the world's largest, with more than 750,000 plants.
