At a glance
- The firm's 2025 deployment ran to about $3.35 billion across 17 secondary transactions, according to coverage of the close.
- At about $197 million a transaction, fully investing the $6 billion fund would take roughly 30 deals, 13 more than the 17 Pantheon completed in 2025.
- For fund selectors, the pacing arithmetic is the practical input: 30 deals at 2025's average, or fewer larger ones, produce different capital-call schedules for an LP matching commitments against distributions.
Pantheon closed its eighth secondaries fund at $6 billion, twice the $3 billion target it set, AltAssets reported. The firm's 2025 deployment ran to about $3.35 billion across 17 secondary transactions, according to coverage of the close.
At about $197 million a transaction, fully investing the $6 billion fund would take roughly 30 deals, 13 more than the 17 Pantheon completed in 2025. The new fund is about 1.8 times the capital the firm put to work that year.
For fund selectors, the pacing arithmetic is the practical input: 30 deals at 2025's average, or fewer larger ones, produce different capital-call schedules for an LP matching commitments against distributions. The coverage does not say which path Pantheon expects, or whether average deal size will move from $197 million; that average is the diligence question, because it sets both the number of transactions the fund needs and how long the capital takes to go out.
The $197 million is an average, not a template. The coverage gives no breakdown of the 17 transactions, so the same $3.35 billion of annual deployment could come from a few large LP portfolio purchases or many smaller ones, and the two produce very different fund-level exposure once $6 billion is at work.
Ares filed a Form D on Oct. 14 for a Stegosaurus secondaries vehicle with the offering size undisclosed. The notice lists Ares Global Structured Solutions Management LP, Ares Global Structured Solutions LLC, Matthew Jill and Nathan Walton as related persons. A registration without a size cannot be set beside Pantheon's $6 billion or against the 30-deal figure, and it stands as a secondaries vehicle in the queue rather than a measurable competitor.
At $197 million a deal, $6 billion is 30 transactions. Where the count lands from here, and at what average size, is the measure of how the fund is being put to work.
