OData's $630 million retrofit buys Aligned a captive cooling customer

Two operating Latin American data centers get a retrofit that turns grid-constrained power into AI capacity—and Aligned gets a regional reference customer for the liquid cooling system it wants to sell across the region.

At a glance

  1. Phase-one installation and testing is already underway at both facilities, as Data Center Dynamics reported.
  2. OData already runs Aligned's Delta Cubed air system in those halls, so adding DeltaFlow lets each site cool air and liquid together—what high-density AI racks require if they are to deliver more compute per megawatt at facilities that already hold grid connections.
  3. Where the equipment comes from matters nearly as much: DeltaFlow is manufactured at Munters' Araucaria plant in Paraná state, Brazil, which puts a Brazilian deployment's hardware inside the country rather than on an ocean, and should shorten the gap between order and rack energization while trimming freight and tariff exposure.

What looks like a $630 million equipment order from OData is also Aligned Data Centers establishing a reference installation for DeltaFlow, the liquid cooling system it designed with Munters, at two operating sites—SP04 in Brazil and QR03 in Mexico. Grid capacity, not capital, decides what gets built, and a thermal upgrade is how a Latin American operator extracts more from power it already has rather than waiting in a queue for power it does not.

Munters vice president Keith Dunnavant said the manufacturer's global footprint lets it support Aligned and OData as they add capacity across Latin America and beyond.

Ownership explains the configuration: Patria Investments founded OData in 2015 and sold it to Aligned in May 2023, and the operator now runs facilities in Chile, Colombia, Brazil and Mexico, with more in development—so a subsidiary installing its parent's designed system, built by the partner that co-developed it, is a captive first customer for a product Aligned would like the rest of the region to buy. OData chief executive Ricardo Alário described the deployment as an effort to make DeltaFlow the reference system for liquid cooling in Latin America, a vendor ambition being voiced by the buyer. The $630 million buys OData capacity and Aligned a reference installation, and it is the parent that gets the cheaper half of the trade.

No customer is named for the density the cooling unlocks, the same order of operations as at Aligned's Beaver County campus, where the generation was assembled first and no customer named. The difference is that OData is upgrading halls already running and billing tenants, so a hybrid retrofit is underwritten against rents in place rather than a demand forecast. The next date that matters is a name attached to the added AI capacity, because that is what converts a $630 million equipment order into a Latin American demand story—and Aligned's case for selling DeltaFlow across the region rests on it.
