Net Zero Atlantic to share offshore wind expertise with unnamed European groups

The Renewables Now headline does not identify the European participants or describe what the arrangement covers.

At a glance

  1. The text beneath the headline is an outlet description and subscription notice rather than reporting, which leaves the collaboration documented in a single line.
  2. The Alcazar close was read as validation of wind economics anyway, a habit this publication flagged at the time.
  3. An expertise-sharing agreement is a claim on process rather than capacity — access to a consenting regime, port capacity, a supply chain or a queue position that one side holds and the other needs.

A Renewables Now headline dated 29 September says Net Zero Atlantic will share offshore wind expertise with European groups, naming the arrangement but only one of its two sides and leaving the European participants unidentified. The text beneath the headline is an outlet description and subscription notice rather than reporting, which leaves the collaboration documented in a single line.

Energy transition news has been arriving that way for months, and this publication has run the list: a £3 billion offshore wind claim from RenewableUK with no arithmetic behind it, a EUR5bn Masdar and Luxcara tie-up that named two technologies and no price, an Alcazar financing that closed 131 MW of wind with no tariff, no offtake counterparty and no lender disclosed, a Namibian green fertiliser backing with no fund, no figure and no instrument named. The Alcazar close was read as validation of wind economics anyway, a habit this publication flagged at the time. Announcing is the cheap part; what the sector has not worked out is how to price an arrangement that discloses neither its participants nor its output.

This masthead's position has been that grid access is the asset in the transition and generation is a derivative of it. An expertise-sharing agreement is a claim on process rather than capacity — access to a consenting regime, port capacity, a supply chain or a queue position that one side holds and the other needs. That is a reasonable thing for both parties to want, and it is the hardest kind of agreement to verify from a headline, because nothing in the arrangement moves except knowledge.

The first real disclosure would be a name for the European groups; the second would be a project with a capacity figure behind it. Until one of those appears, the collaboration stands as an intention published ahead of its terms, which is where a good deal of the quarter's energy transition news has stopped.
