McKay will use Relativity's ChronoCore hollow-core fiber and plans to sell dedicated dark-fiber-pair indefeasible rights of use (IRUs) alongside managed connectivity from 10Gbps to 400Gbps. Terms were not disclosed. Relativity says ChronoCore lets data travel roughly 47% faster than conventional glass fiber.
For allocators underwriting latency-sensitive routes, the partnership adds a commercially available alternative to single-mode glass on New Jersey financial-market routes. Hollow-core fiber is not expected to replace conventional fiber. It is aimed at performance-critical routes such as financial trading locations, links between data centers and cloud regions, and AI training and inference workloads, according to Data Center Dynamics.
Tim Boyle, McKay's chief operating officer, said the firm has worked with successive generations of hollow-core fiber for nearly a decade. "Relativity offers the best technical solution we have evaluated for the networks we want to build," he said, citing US patent provenance, security of supply and Prysmian's fiber and cable production.
Production runs through Prysmian: fiber is made in Eindhoven, Netherlands, cabled in Claremont, North Carolina, and couplers and installation training are handled in Orlando, Florida.
Colt Technology Services has also used ChronoCore. In October Colt, Relativity and NPS completed a London hollow-core trial, as Private Infrastructure Daily previously reported.
