LS Electric secures $138.5m Bloom order for Pennsylvania data center switchgear

Deliveries of 38kV switchgear and distribution transformers are expected from April to July next year, per Data Center Dynamics.

At a glance

  1. The order covers 38kV high-voltage switchgear and distribution transformers for fuel cells at a Pennsylvania data center.
  2. The equipment is likely for Aligned Data Centers' "Project Phoenix" campus in Shippingport, Pennsylvania, though DCD describes the destination as unconfirmed.
  3. The April contract covered similar systems at a New Mexico data center project.

LS Electric has secured a 185.3 billion won ($138.5m) order from Bloom Energy, Data Center Dynamics reported. The order covers 38kV high-voltage switchgear and distribution transformers for fuel cells at a Pennsylvania data center.

Deliveries are expected from April to July next year, DCD reported. The equipment is likely for Aligned Data Centers' "Project Phoenix" campus in Shippingport, Pennsylvania, though DCD describes the destination as unconfirmed. Bloom is expected to deploy up to 2GW of fuel cells at the under-construction campus to power it behind the meter.

It is the second order LS has taken from Bloom, following a 319 billion won ($216.5m) contract signed in April. The April contract covered similar systems at a New Mexico data center project. DCD reports that site is likely Project Jupiter, being developed by Oracle and BorderPlex Digital Assets in Doña Ana County — a connection the companies have not explicitly reported.

The order covers the electrical interface for a campus Bloom expects to host up to 2GW of fuel cells. Bloom's announced pipeline gives LS a run of work: an expansion of its Oracle agreement to up to 2.8GW of capacity, deployments across 19 Equinix data centers exceeding 100MW, and a deal with American Electric Power for up to 1GW of solid-oxide fuel cells to power AI data centers off-grid. On the capital side, Bloom signed a $5 billion AI infrastructure partnership with Brookfield last year, under which Brookfield invests in the firm. As this publication has argued, the AI buildout's binding constraint has moved into the supply chain.

Neither DCD nor the companies have confirmed the Pennsylvania or New Mexico end sites, so the 2GW figure for Project Phoenix remains Bloom's expected deployment rather than a signed capacity number.
