Jeff Wang, who led Sequoia Capital's global equities business for a decade, has raised more than $1 billion in commitments for Augnition Global Investors, a technology-focused hedge fund that began trading this month.
A Sept. 30 regulatory filing listed at least $570 million of initial capital; the remaining commitments are expected to be drawn over time, according to Hedgeweek, citing Bloomberg. Roughly 45% of that disclosed starting capital came from internal sources.
For allocators, the filed figure is the more useful starting point: after the internal stake, the fund held about $310 million of outside capital when it began trading. Because the mandate spans public and private technology companies, fees, lockup and notice periods are material; the Hedgeweek account did not provide them. The commitments above the filed figure are drawn over time, so the fee-paying base in early months is closer to the filed amount than to the pledged $1 billion.
Augnition is the second hedge fund startup to clear $1 billion this year, after NX1 Capital launched in January with $2.5 billion. NX1 was founded by former Coatue Management investor Daniel Senft. Bloomberg called Wang's raise one of the largest hedge fund launches of 2026. Hedgeweek said established multi-strategy platforms are drawing a disproportionate share of investor capital.
Wang, 47, ran that Sequoia strategy at a 17% annualized return over the decade and grew its assets from $600 million to $9 billion, according to figures he disclosed last year. His late-stage technology positions included ByteDance, SpaceX, Stripe and Airbnb. The initial fundraising included $25 million for a vehicle targeting Cyera, a cybersecurity company.
