NAREIM survey: 91% of surveyed CRE firms use Copilot

Deloitte's outlook found 8% of surveyed CRE executives had integrated AI, with 92% still in research or pilot.

At a glance

  1. The same respondents rated their organizations' AI maturity 5.7 out of 10.
  2. For wealth allocators, the 8% integration rate makes it worth asking a manager's operations team whether underwriting and asset-management systems are in production or in pilot.
  3. PLOT Daily's article argues firms may get better results by narrowing to fewer AI tools that address specific operational needs and show measurable benefits, according to IREI's account of it.

Of the institutional real estate firms that took part in the 2026 NAREIM Technology, Data & AI Survey, 91% had deployed Microsoft Copilot, IREI reported Oct. 20, citing an Oct. 19 PLOT Daily article.

The same respondents rated their organizations' AI maturity 5.7 out of 10. Deloitte's 2027 Commercial Real Estate Outlook found 92% of surveyed executives were still in research or pilot stages of AI adoption, while 8% reported having integrated AI solutions. The challenges cited include evaluating competing platforms, integrating new technologies with existing systems, training employees and managing implementation costs.

For wealth allocators, the 8% integration rate makes it worth asking a manager's operations team whether underwriting and asset-management systems are in production or in pilot. Implementation cost appears among the cited challenges, which suggests that spending lands in a fund's operating budget rather than in a one-off technology line.

PLOT Daily's article argues firms may get better results by narrowing to fewer AI tools that address specific operational needs and show measurable benefits, according to IREI's account of it.
