Innio books 620MW gas engine order, contracted capacity hits 1.72GW

The repeat order comes months after a 1.1GW order, with a full maintenance agreement covering the first 500MW of ordered capacity.

At a glance

  1. The order takes contracted capacity with that customer to 1.72GW across two orders announced since July.
  2. The 620MW will be delivered as containerized J624 generators, and deliveries under both orders are scheduled in phases.
  3. Innio also signed a long-term full maintenance agreement covering the first 500MW of the previously ordered capacity, including all spare parts and labor through a major overhaul.

Innio announced a 620MW follow-on order for gas engines from an undisclosed US hyperscale data center developer, Data Center Dynamics reports. The order takes contracted capacity with that customer to 1.72GW across two orders announced since July.

The 620MW will be delivered as containerized J624 generators, and deliveries under both orders are scheduled in phases. The earlier 1.1GW order, announced in July, is expected to support deployment of more than 200 Innio Jenbacher J624 engines providing behind-the-meter prime power at US sites. Data Center Dynamics gave no contract value or delivery dates.

Innio also signed a long-term full maintenance agreement covering the first 500MW of the previously ordered capacity, including all spare parts and labor through a major overhaul. That service revenue runs past the equipment delivery. The developer is undisclosed, so 1.72GW of contracted capacity cannot be matched to a named credit.

The J624 is a 4.5MW high-speed gas engine, the largest of Innio's Type 6 group, sold in containerized form and aimed at data center operators. Olaf Berlien, Innio's president and chief executive, said the follow-on came "just months after the customer's initial 1.1GW order" and described the units as built for fast deployment, high power density and fuel efficiency.

Innio has also tested hydrogen-fueled J624 engines for backup power with the Net Zero Innovation Hub for Data Centers, but that demonstration covered backup duty, not prime power. The report did not say whether the remaining 1.22GW of contracted capacity will carry maintenance terms like the 500MW already covered.
