ICG has appointed Ramon Arocena as a managing director to lead its mid-market push in Iberia, where he will source and execute deals for the firm's European mid-market funds. Alternative Credit Investor first reported the hire. Arocena will be based in Madrid and report to Gareth Knight, head of ICG Europe Mid-Market.
Arocena joins from Advent International, where he was a managing director, after earlier working as a partner at Peninsula Capital, a southern European mid-market investment firm. Advent raised $30 billion for its GPE XI fund and its first mid-market fund in October, as Private Wealth Daily previously reported. ICG is a London-listed alternative asset manager with $126 billion (£93.4 billion) of assets under management across structured capital, private-equity secondaries, private debt, liquid credit and real assets.
For allocators in ICG's mid-market funds, Iberia becomes part of the sourcing map, with Arocena pursuing family owners and founders alongside the strategy's existing European deal flow. He said he would look to "identify new investment opportunities" and build partnerships with family owners, founders and management teams across the region. A key diligence question is whether that pipeline overlaps with borrowers the European funds already reach through sponsor relationships.
