Larry Raffone, the former CEO and current board chairman of Edelman Financial Services, has joined Aligned Wealth as a founding partner and executive chairman, WealthManagement.com reported Nov. 3. Aligned is a new RIA where his son, Nick Raffone, is president and CFO.
Aligned was co-founded last month by Gregory Pool and Pat Dwyer, both former NewEdge Wealth executives. The firm is affiliated with NewEdge, which supplies its operational, administrative and technology support. Nick Raffone, formerly CFO at Vise, was appointed president and CFO.
For advisors weighing a move to a new RIA, Aligned's pitch rests on structure rather than scale: no outside capital and no proprietary products, with pricing disclosed in writing. Raffone said outside money "puts another voice at the table with another vote" and "runs on a clock because investors need a return." The fee schedule itself was not disclosed.
Scale, for now, sits with the affiliate. NewEdge Wealth reported $19.9 billion in regulatory assets, 211 employees and 19,593 accounts in a Form ADV filed April 23, 2026 — figures that describe NewEdge, not Aligned.
Raffone described a circuitous path to the role. He said he met Dwyer at an industry conference in Napa, Calif., while he was retired, then traveled to Miami to meet Pool, and found they agreed on using artificial intelligence and on how the business should be built. In a LinkedIn post he tied the move to his earlier career: "I spent more than two decades at Edelman Financial Engines, and I started my career at Fidelity. Both taught me how firms grow, how they change, and what clients need from them."
He framed Aligned's planning process as starting from purpose rather than a target number. "We ask the most important question. 'What's the money for?'" he said.
The firm's stated position on ownership is explicit. "We're not building a firm to sell it. We're building a firm to last," Raffone said.
Aligned's team also includes Travis Aldridge, head of portfolio engineering; Cristina Pratt, head of marketing and private wealth advisor; Cara Vazquez, head of private markets and wealth advisor; and private wealth advisors Travis Lazaroff and Andrew Draft.
