Cboe puts Q3 options ADV at 70.6 million contracts, 4% below Q2 record

Growth was concentrated in index and ETF options even as total activity cooled, the quarterly review says.

Cboe's quarterly options review puts market-wide average daily volume at 70.6 million contracts in the third quarter of 2026, four percent below the record level of the second quarter.

The report ties the moderation to macroeconomic factors, citing higher interest rates and energy costs affecting equities.

Cboe says volume growth in the quarter was concentrated in index and ETF options.
