Bank Negara Malaysia launches in-house depository for tokenized bonds and sukuk

SSDS+ extends the central bank's existing scripless depository and can settle in central bank money around the clock once integrated with RENTAS+, according to Ledger Insights.

Bank Negara Malaysia has launched SSDS+, an in-house issuance, depository and safekeeping platform for tokenized bonds and sukuk, according to Ledger Insights. It extends the central bank's existing Scripless Securities Depository System (SSDS), the country's current central securities depository.

Malaysia's cloud-based real time gross settlement system RENTAS+ started operating around the clock last year; once integrated with SSDS+, transactions can settle in central bank money at any hour. The platform is designed to support tokenized government bonds and corporate retail bonds.
