AEP to buy up to 1.6 GW Mainspring units, plans $4B Cheyenne fuel cells

The eight-year Mainspring agreement carries a stated ceiling of up to $4 billion; the 702 MW Cheyenne project pairs Bloom Energy fuel cells with a 20-year Google PPA.

American Electric Power has agreed to buy up to 1.6 gigawatts of Mainspring linear generators over eight years under a contract with a stated ceiling of up to $4 billion.

AEP also plans a 702-megawatt Cheyenne fuel cell project using Bloom Energy fuel cells and backed by a 20-year Google power purchase agreement.

The two initiatives carry separate $4 billion figures: the Mainspring agreement is a purchase ceiling, while the Cheyenne project is a planned $4 billion cost.
